Hello, everyone, and welcome to the My Body, My Story project and today with us, Trudy, and while she's sitting in the makeup chair, and Chitra is doing her magic, creating a nice makeup for her. I'll be asking few questions. Hi, Trudy. Welcome to the studio. Welcome to the project. And let's start with tell us 10 facts about yourself.
Hi, thank you.
Welcome.
Thank you for welcoming here today. 10 facts about myself or my name is Trudy. I'm 48 I'm 49 this year on the 27th of August. I'm a single mom. I have two beautiful daughters, Olivia and Taylor. So all their lives Olivia is 22. And Taylor is 15 on the first of June, so it's coming up. So and they are my world. Yes, I love them to bits.
So where are you were born? in Australia?
Born in Australia, born in Sydney, lived in Sydney when I was younger, and then we moved to the country. So with my mum, and then we've been living on the North Coast. Now I live on the North Coast now with my girls. So we're the Three Musketeers. Oh, hold ourselves. So yeah, my strength.
So what do you do usually like what do you like? Okay, well, first, I'll ask you, what's your job? Or what do you do? Do you have business or you work? Somewhere like, What's your occupation has this thing? Yeah.
Yeah. So I'm actually a business owner. So I bought a business seven years ago. And it's called the natural waffle cone ice cream parlour. So I invest in the best ice cream in the world. It comes from New Zealand. So I've been running that one for over seven years now. With my girls, I have 24 staff now because I have another business. I have two businesses. I'm building that one at the moment or so on the mid north coast. So the natural waffle ice cream parlour is growing every day. So I have amazing staff and amazing team, the best team. I always say the best team in foster Tuncurry most of them are all women would you believe? Girls? I work with the schools and the local community. So I also help build obviously young girls up with obviously confidence and give them some faith and some, you know, I suppose yeah, just to build their confidence and drive to achieve things in this big wide world. So. So yeah, so I'm kinda I feel like I'm blessed. I get to run two businesses now that I love to do. It's my passion.
And what's your second business?
they're both the natural waffle ice cream parlour?
So are you in two different shops?
Two different shops in two different locations. And the staff that I have worked between the two shops, which is amazing, so they're close they're about 30 minutes apart. Different suburbs. Yeah, my my both my daughters working in the shops.
Also you have helpers.
Yeah, I have great helpers and, and they're learning all the skills about running business and customer service. You know, just making a difference in the world, I suppose. So I get to live my purpose every day. I'm very blessed. And that's through, you know, providing business opportunity, work opportunity and serve. This is probably a big part of my life. I feel that's why I'm hearing and. And that's how I make a difference in the world every day.
So how did you come up with this idea to buy an ice cream business?
Yeah, well, long story short, I actually was living in Sydney and I went through a divorce, and Foster on the mid north coast was always home for me. That's where my mum lives. So we moved back and this business in particular come up for sale. And I thought this is what I wanted to do. Previously from that I was in sales and marketing in Sydney running corporate divisions and team building in Sydney for 15 years. Yeah, so I worked for a few different companies. So which includes Cadbury Schweppes, Kraft Foods, Lindt chocolates,
so it's to do with food
yeah, food industry.
So you did have some experience.
never ice cream, but I just kind of threw myself in the deep end, when I brought the shopping in Foster to start with. But I had a vision, and I'm very visual. And I believe in manifestation. So when you manifest something that comes to me, and I do a lot of that. I feel that that's got a lot to do with what I've achieved in life. Especially in the last seven years. Being a single mom. Yes. It's a big thing. Yeah. Yeah. So yeah, so but I love working within the community and making a difference as well. Within the community and the schools. You know, we sponsor netball teams, and we do a lot. So it's a lot of I like to give a lot I feel when you give you it comes back to you.
So if someone wants to check out that Do you have any website or social media or like where they can?
Yeah, definitely. So we definitely use all the social media aspects of Facebook, there is a webpage, The Natural Waffle Ice Cream Parlour, Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok all of the social media aspects. So if anyone wanted to check out The Natural Waffle Ice Cream Parlour, you just need to Google it. And you'll find it.
Yeah, yeah. Perfect. Yeah. So apart from this business, I know usually business takes all the time. Yeah. Do you have any other hobbies? Or like, what do you do with your free time? If you get some?
yeah, definitely. It's finding the balance, isn't it when you have two businesses and 24 staff, and two girls, so you try and put the mum hat on the business hat on the Yeah, got all I've got a fair bit to juggle. I, I get up early in the morning, every morning about 430 If I walk, and I take myself for a run. So I'll run down to the beach along the break walls. I normally do about five to seven K's every day.
Oh, wow.
It's keeping me obviously for mental health that clears my mindset. Yeah, and I love it. I'm actually I think I've got an addiction to it. So which is good. And I suppose moving forward in life with age and time passing. I think it's important to continue to, you know, I suppose state get set yourself into a routine or stay in the routine. As you age, you know, your body starts to change. So I want to be fit and healthy for when the grandkids come along. You know, I'm always thinking forward. You know, I look at my mom and you know, there's arthritis that's taking over now and, and stuff like that. So if you can keep your body moving and healthy, then that's going to work and benefit me in the long run. So yeah, yeah, so running. I do like art I'm quite a creative person as well. So I like to draw and paint when I can. I'll tend some of the wine and sipping art classes around that a local now and again. So that's one way to meet new people and just socialise you can have a nice glass of wine and decent painting and some drawing so yeah, I do definitely find time when I can. The businesses are going well I've got great staff so now I'm kind of moving into I suppose the next stage of where I can plan a little travel time away for myself. Yeah, yeah, it's pretty good. .. Oh, I do love beaches. So anywhere that's got a good beach. I'm I'm there. I haven't really travelled Well, I haven't had time to travel overseas much because when I was married, I was being the mum and the wife, you know, all those things. So not much travel at the moment, but I'm definitely looking at Greece and Europe. Yeah, on the bucket list anyway.
As my husband says, Why do you need to travel somewhere for beach holiday when you have it here?
Yeah, you do. You've got the best of both worlds down here. So just to change the scenery. Yeah. You know, to see something new. I know that we have nice beaches in in Australia and beautiful beaches. Yeah. And, but sometimes it's nice just to go somewhere else. Different country to experience food and, you know, yeah.
Are you a food fan? Or your Do you have any favourite cuisine?
I wish I was pretty good desserts. So we're not just about ice cream cone. We do hot waffles and all different sundaes, and milkshakes and thick shakes and
all the bad stuff.
All the good stuff. Yeah, but it's all the good it is. But look, I'm not with food. I'd like a bit of Thai. I'm not really fussy. Like, I'll have a good steak on the barbecue. Kind of kind of girl. Yeah.
Simple food.
Very simple and easy. Yeah. Yeah.
So moving to…because you’ve mentioned it already. And I want to move to the age subject. And what does aging mean to you?
Oh, wow. Well, I think you're just growing. Every day when you age, I went through a stage there. I think it was probably when I was turning 40 where I was like, fearing the thought of getting older. You know, as time pass. It's like, Whoa, it's kind of the realisation of life, I suppose in general. And time time is precious. So, ageing. For me, I think the last, I would say eight years has gone so fast. Oh, my gosh, it's ridiculous. I think we need to embrace it more. Now embrace who we are. And as time you know, passes, and we age, I think we need to realise that that is important. And we need to embrace it more so than anything. Yeah, within your age instead of worrying about, you know how quick it's going. So yeah, enjoy life more.
Yeah. So what if you could go back to any age of yours? What it would be? Why, and what advice would you give yourself at that age?
Well, that's a really good question. It's one that I did read. And it's quite, I'm not sure. Because so much is happening in in my life. You know? So when you think about what age what I like to go back to and why? Well, there's a million, I suppose a million reasons. Whether you wanted to change something within yourself, or and that's probably the most thing is just treating, learning to treat your body more like a temple when you're younger, and realising what's ahead of you. Now, knowing it now you don't I mean, like, so if I were to go back, I'd probably look at maybe around 29. Yeah. And just the realisation of health more, looking after your body more. And I suppose embracing the people who come into your life and leave your life as well, because people come and go for a reason. I feel so yeah. But it's a very hard question to answer.
Well, you did well
You know, I had a moment where I was thinking about it this morning with Mel talking to Mel and you know, like I lost a good friend. You know, when we're younger. And I suppose even that that's one around 17. Yeah. And it's like, wow. Yeah.
So I liked that your answer leads to another question. As What do you if your body could talk? What do you think it will ask you or tell you at this age?
No, I think right now my body would be going You go girl, you are amazing. And I'm so proud of you of how far you have come and what you have conquered in your life in regards to your body. So, you know, just as in the mental health side, the stamina side, the strength, the ability to have the discipline, right now, so my body is pretty damn well happy. So I can say, and if it was to tell me something, it would be obviously keep going. And, and don't stop and continue this journey that I'm on right now. And right rewriting this chapter.
So I’ll change the order of the questions. And will ask this one, because it's usually goes last, but I will ask it now. Yeah. So if you have any body related issues, let's say you feel like okay, you out of shape for a while or something like, you know, some insecurities we will have from time to time we do. Yeah. So how do you overcome that? What's your go to method? And has it change with age? Was it different when you were younger?
Definitely. Yeah. So younger days, I think the pressure of the body image was, it's pretty fierce. You know, I think we're all about the Joneses, you know, like, or it was the expectations, whether it be from your friends, your family, or your your boyfriend, your partner, that sort of thing. Now, when I look at my body, I, it's it's like, yeah, you know what, I love you, I love you now, and to feel the way you felt back in the day. Unfortunately, it's just the way it was, you know, and it's probably one thing that I would change if I could go back. And just, you know, let all women and young girls now to embrace every part of who you are inside and out. Yeah, and your body. And you know, you might have the flaws or the imperfections in that, but that's just who you are. That's makes you that individual. And there's only one of you so you know, you should embrace every part of it. Yeah, yeah.
So in the what's the methods, you would just do sports, or?
Yeah, definitely. So method wise would be continue to, you know, maybe look at things that can help you if you want to, you know, work on certain parts, whether it be mental health, talking to someone and reaching out, or if it's just your, you know, your body image, then, you know, for me, like, I do my running and walking and that sort of stuff, because that works in with, you know, the work balance and being a mom and so forth. So it's finding your niche, it's finding something that doesn't feel like work. And, and, you know, and then you just embrace that.
So you mentioned about this body image issues, that we all experienced that at some point of in our life. So what do you think are the main causes of this body image issues?
Right now social media is huge. Yeah, it's probably the main, the main point of body image. It's not real, a lot of the social media isn't real. There's, you know, you've got your filters, you've got celebrities, you know, all of that is all a part of it. Where I feel there is obviously issues there, especially with young girls and women. I also feel that maybe there's expectations from other people that put the pressure on, you know, on women maybe there could be a lot of factors to be honest. Their mental health
I think social media started developing rapidly in 2007
Yeah, some somewhere around this.
But before thing women still had some insecurities. So what the other now its social media that adds up a lot to that. Yeah, but also there's something else yeah. Before that, where it starts? in the family and social circles?
It could be Yeah, yeah, definitely. The expectations. Yeah, yep. And worse, just in learning about, you know, your self worth, yeah, you know, and looking after yourself, and not kind of Following everyone else.
So how do you think it may affect relationship, this negative body image of yourself? And I'm talking about all kinds of relationships, not only partner? Yeah, work your friends?
they, you know, I think what was the question again?
So how do you think it affects the relationship?
Well, if, if a woman obviously is not comfortable within their own skin, or they don't really know, their self worth, depending on situations or where they're at in their life, it can affect obviously, their body image can affect that as well. They're not comfortable in their own skin. Does that make sense?
Yeah. So are you saying that If they're uncomfortable with themselves, they uncomfortable with partners as well?
Yeah. Yeah, they could be even the partner will tell you. Oh, you beautiful I love you as you are. But still, it's within the way you have leaving? Yeah. Yeah. It all starts within yourself, your mindset. You know, and, and if you're not if you don't have those positive role models around, yeah, that are positive and influence you to embrace yourself and know your self worth. And I suppose to do overcome that barrier. It makes it is very hard. Yeah, it is very hard.
So my last question, if you have any favourite saying or quotes about being a woman, oh, are you thoughts?
One would be hot. I've just gone blank. One would be yes.
You can check your Notes.
I just checked. I think it I think I am. One. Okay. So one would be it was Eleonora Roseville used to say, she was a first lady, I think it was 1933. From what I remember. But she used to say, well, she did quote, a woman is like a tea bag. And you never know how strong she is until she gets in hot water.
It's my favorite quote
it is one of my favorite quotes. But in just general in the younger generation, so we are I employ a lot of young, young girls as well. And I always would say to him, you know, always be the best person you can be. You know, be the best person you can be bring it every day. No matter what you're doing, whether it's at school or at work at home, believe in yourself and be the best person.
It can be such a big responsibility to be a mentor for young girls. And it's very brave, that you took this role for yourself, and I hope that you will be successful in that. And I wish your business all the success and so you, you thrive.
Thank you.
Hopefully you help as many young girls as you can.
Absolutely.
Thank you very much for joining the project. And I hope you will enjoy the rest of your day.
